The Energy Transitions & Climate Action Taskforce (ETCAT) focuses on Southern Africa’s urgent challenge of reducing coal dependence while ensuring a just and equitable shift to clean energy. With coal and mining central to livelihoods and growth, the transition must balance social stability, affordability, and sustainability. ETCAT explores how to triple renewables by 2030, implement methane abatement, and establish transparent frameworks for critical mineral supply chains. Delegates will debate funding mechanisms for worker transition packages, strategies to accelerate renewables, and principles for responsible mineral extraction. The committee aims to design actionable pathways for a fair and inclusive energy future.

Arjun Morey, Chair

Arjun Morey, the Chair of the Model G20 Energy Transitions and Climate Taskforce, is an experienced organiser and a passionate climate advocate. He has participated in 4-5 Model United Nations conferences, serving as delegate, refining his skills in diplomacy and policy drafting. Arjun has also been a part of the Pune Climate Warriors organizing committee for 3 years, where he helped coordinate city-wide climate change awareness campaigns. Building on this foundation, he is poised to lead Climate and Energy discussions in a real world context.

Palaash Gang, Vice Chair

Palaash is a multiple time national-medalist speed skater and he also moderates debate and drafts consensus text grounded in evidence. He tutors and certifies on schoolhouse.world across Pre-Algebra to AP Physics/CS and SAT Prep, and he co-hosts academic competitions, so he plans agendas, enforces procedure, and keeps time. He speaks publicly on advanced topics, including a talks on his mathematical and expository research. He brings quantitative rigor through his numerous accomplishments in the SAT, APs, olympiads and collegiate courses bringing near perfect scores. He is a true allrounder and aims to use his expertise and talents in the field Climate Action as well.
